Ratio between two quanties is given a : b and total quantity is x
Then portion of
First quantity = [a/(a +b)]×x
Second quantity = [b/(a +b)]×x
Percentage of both quantities

% of Second quantity = [b/(a +b)]×100
If a,b,c and d are in proportion then
a : b = c :d
If a,b,c and d are in inverse proportion then
a/d = c/b

Ans. A got the money
= [2/(2+3)]×500
= (2/5) ×500 = Rs 200
Q2.Anupama takes 125 minutes in walking a distance of 100 metre. What distance would she cover in 315 minutes?

Ans.Let the distance covered by Anupama is x in 315 minutes
She takes 125 minutes to cover the distance of 100m
∴125 : 100 = 315 😡
125/100 = 315/x
By the cross-multiplication,we get
125x = 31500
x = 31500/125 =252 km
Q3.A car is travelling at the average speed of 50 km/hr. How much distance would it travel in 12 minutes?
a.15 km b.25 km c.12 km d.10 km
Ans. Let the distance covered by the car is x km in 12 minutes
The car is traveling at the average speed of 50 km/hr
1 hour = 60 minutes
∴ 50 : 60 = x : 12
50/60 = x/12
60x = 600
x = 600/60 = 10 km
Q4.The second class railway fare for 240 km of Journey is Rs 15.00. What would be the fare for a Journey of 139.2 km?

Ans. Let x rupees would be the fare for a journey of 139.2 km
The second class railway fare for 240 km of Journey is Rs 15.00
240 : 15 = 139.2 😡
240/15 = 139.2/x

Q5.The cost of 97 metre of cloth is Rs 242.50 What length of this can be purchased for Rs 302.50?

The cost of 97 metre of cloth is Rs 242.50
x : 302.50 = 97 : 242.50
x/302.50 = 97/242.50
242.50 x = 302.50×97
x = 302.50×97/242.50 =29342.5/242.5 = 121 m
Q6.11 men can dig 6 ¾ metre long trench in one day. How many men should be employed for digging 27 metre long trench of the same type in one day?

Ans.Let x men should be employed for digging 27 metre long trench in one day
Given that 11 men can dig 6 ¾ metre long trench in one day
6 ¾ m : 11 = 27 : x
27/4 : 11 = 27 : x
27/44 =27 /x
27x = 27×44
x = 27 ×44/27 = 44 men
Q7.If 36 men can do a piece of work in 25 days, in how many days will 15 men do it?

Ans. Let the no. of days in which 15 men do the work are x days
Given that 36 men can do a piece of work in 25 days
In this case if no. of men increase then no. of days in doing the work decreases therefore men and no.of days are inversely proportional to each other.
∴36 : x= 15 : 25
36/x =15/25
15x = 25×36
x = 25×36/15 =60 days
