Class 9 Maths MCQ’s Chapter 1 Number System for unit tests & CBSE Board Exam 2021
Q1. The value of
Ans.(d)
Q2. Find the value of
(a) 8/15 (b) 2/9 (c) 9/125 (d) 3/5
Ans. (d) 3/5
Q3. Find the value of
(a) 1/18 (b) 1/3 (c) 27 (d) 81
Ans. (b) 1/3
Q4. Find the value of
(a) 1 (b) -1 (c) 671 (d) 5/6
Ans. (a) 1
= 6 – 5 = 1
Q5. Which of the following number is an irrational number ?
(a) √25 – 5 (b) (2 -√2)(2 + √2) (c) √7 + 2 (d) -√625
Ans. (c) √7 + 2
The sum of an irrational number and a rational number is an irratioal number ,√7 is an irrational number and 2 is rational,therefore √7 + 2 is an irrational number.
Q6. The decimal expansion of √3 is
(a) Finite decimal (b) 1.7321 (c) non-terminating recurring (d) non -terminating non-recurring
Ans.(d) non-terminating non-recurring
√3 is a surd and every surd is a non -terminating non-recurring decimal or an irrational number
Q7. If x = √3/2 and 7/x = K√3, then the value of K is
(a) 7/√3 (b) 14/3 (c) √7/3 (d) 3/14
Ans. (b) 14/3
We are given x = √3/2 and 7/x = K√3
Putting the value x =√3/2 in equation 7/x = K√3
7/√3/2 = K√3
K = (7×2)/(√3×√3) = 14/3
Q8. The sum of 0.5555….. and 0.6666….. is
(a) 11/9 (b) 7/9 (c) 7/10 (d) 5/99
Ans. (a) 11/9
Writting 0.5555… and 0.6666…. in the form of P/Q
Let x = 0.5555….(i) and y = 0.6666….(ii)
10 x = 5.555……(iii) and 10 y = 6.666…(iv)
Subtracting equation (i) from equation (iii) and equation (ii) from equation (iv)
9x = 5 and 9y = 6
x = 5/9 and y = 6/9
∴ x + y = 5/9 + 6/9 = 11/9
Q9. √24 ×√32 is equal to
(a) 16√3 (b) 8√6 (c) 24√3 (d) 32√3
Ans.(a) 16√3
√24 ×√32
√[(2×2×2×3) ×(2×2×2×2×2)]
2×2×2×2√3 = 16√3
You can see the video of these solutions
Q10. Find the value of (100 +50 )/1000
(a) 2 (b) 0 (c) 3/20 (d) 5/100
Ans. (a) 2
(100 +50 )/1000 = (1 +1)/1 = 2/1 = 2
Q11. A rational number lying between √2 and √3
(a) 3/2 (b) √6 (c) (√2 +√3)/2 (d) 1.8
Ans. 3/2
The decimal expansion of √2 upto one place is = 1.4 and of √3 =1.7
Among all alternatives the value of 3/2 = 1.5 is between √2 and √3
Q12. The ascending order of the value is
Ans. The given surds are
Converting them into exponents
Writting the equivalent fraction of their power (i.e 1/2,1/3 and 1/4) = 6/12, 4/12 and 3/12
Now, the exponent forms of the given surds become
Writting them in the form of surds
All the surds are of the same order,now we can compare them by calculating their exponential part
729, 154 and 216
Q13. The value of a and b in (3 – 2√2)/(3 + 2√2) = a + b√2 is
Ans. (3 -2√2)/(3 +2√2) =a + b√2
Multiplying the denominator and numerator by the conjugate of the denominator (3 – 2√2)
(3 -2√2)(3 -2√2)/(3 +2√2)(3 -2√2) = a + b√2
Applying the identity (x -y)² = x² +y² -2xy and x² – y² = (x + y)( x -y)
(9 + 8 – 12√2)/(9 – 8) = a + b√2
17 + (-12 √2) = a + b√2
Comparing LHS and RHS
a = 17, b = -12
