How does the water kept in an earthen pot become cold during summer?
What happens to water when it is kept in an earthen pot? for answering this question let’s first understand vaporization and evaporation, vaporization is the process in which a liquid changes to gas(vapor), as it is known to everybody that when we heat a liquid by raising its temperature the liquid changes into vapor but what is that process when the wet cloths dried up by the wind only when you keep few drops of water on your palm and your palm become cool. There is another type of specific vapourization process due to which all these happen known as evaporation.
Evaporation is the process in which liquid changes into vapor under its boiling temperature so when we keep water in an earthen pot its water is evaporated through the tiny pores on the surface of the earthen pot, the heat energy for the evaporation is taken from inside the earthen pot which results in water inside the earthen pot become cool.In summer the weather is hot and less humid, these both factors are responsible for the increased rate of evaporation so during summer the water inside the earthen pot gets cooled due to increased evaporation of water.
When we keep kerosene or other volatile substance on our palm, it also evaporated and for the evaporation, heat is taken from the surface of our palm it is that’s why our palm becomes cool.
Do you know why everything remains cool inside the refrigerator? In the refrigerator, there is a tube in which a refrigerant(particular gas) circulate through all the internal part like the condenser, compressor, and evaporator. When it is passed on to the compressor the refrigerant transforms into liquid and then to the evaporator, where liquid evaporated into gas, for evaporation heat energy is taken from the objects inside the refrigerator and it is that’s why everything remains cool inside the refrigerator.
You can also study similar types of questions.
(1) Why does our body remain cool after sweating?
Answer: Sweating (or perspiration) is a process by which our body maintains a constant temperature. Heat energy equal to the latent heat of vapourization is taken from the body and the body temperature decreases.
(2)Why should we wear cotton clothes in summer?
Answer: We should wear cotton clothes in summer to keep the body cool and comfortable, because cotton clothes have fine pores and are good absorbents, by absorbing sweat and evaporating through the pores, cotton clothes do not stick to our body and The body remains comfortable.
(3)Why do drops of water appear on its surface when ice cold water is taken in a glass?
Answer: Let’s take some ice cold water in a glass. Soon water droplets appear on the outer surface of the glass. The water vapor present in the air when it comes in contact with a glass of cold water is converted into a water through the process of condensation, which appears as water droplets on the outside of the glass.
